Step 2

Bikes that fit you

Fit ranges are a general guide based on wheel size and frame style, unless the maker gives its own range. Everyone's legs and arms are a bit different, so a test ride is the best check.

How to pick the right e-bike size

The right size e-bike feels steady at the lights, comfy on a long ride and easy to get on and off. Getting it wrong means sore knees, a stretched back or a bike you don't feel safe on. Here's the simple way we size riders in our Tuggerah shop.

1. Start with your height

Your height is the quickest guide to wheel size and frame size. Use the size guide above, then narrow it down with the two checks below.

2. Check you can stand over the bike

Stand over the frame with both feet flat. You want a little space between you and the top tube. If you're between sizes, or you're shorter in the leg, a step-through or low step frame makes stopping and starting much easier.

3. Pick the frame style for how you ride

  • Step-through: no top bar, so you just step in. Great for shorter riders, skirts and dresses, and anyone with stiff hips or knees.
  • Step-over: a classic frame that's stiffer and sportier. Good for trails and taller riders.
  • Fat tyre with a bench seat: a low, comfy seat and wide 20 inch tyres. Easy to handle on sand and gravel along the coast.
  • Cargo: a long back end for kids or shopping, with a low step and a seat that adjusts fast so the whole family can share it.

Size questions

What size e-bike do I need for my height?

As a rough guide, riders under about 160 cm suit 20 inch fat tyre, 26 inch step-through or cargo bikes. Riders from about 160 to 175 cm suit most bikes, including 27.5 inch wheels. Riders over about 175 cm usually suit 29 inch wheels best. Use the size guide above to see which of our bikes fit you.

Is a 27.5 or 29 inch e-bike better for me?

Mamba recommends its 29 inch wheels for riders 175 cm and up. Below that, the 27.5 inch version is usually easier to handle and lets you put your feet down more easily.

Are fat tyre e-bikes good for shorter riders?

Yes. Fat tyre e-bikes like the Mamba Sahara have 20 inch wheels and a low bench seat, so they sit lower than most bikes. Mamba lists the Sahara V2 for riders from 160 to 190 cm.

What is a step-through e-bike?

A step-through e-bike has no high top bar, so you step into the frame instead of swinging a leg over. It's great for shorter riders and anyone with stiff hips or knees.

Can I test ride an e-bike before I buy?

Yes. Book a test ride at our shop at Unit 14/12 Reliance Drive, Tuggerah, on the Central Coast. Call 1300 356 595 or use our contact page.
